Last year, she flirted with 5G and Anti-vaxx conspiracies. Does she actually believe that, or was just trying to get attention? But then clarified she was moreso against pharamasuiticals than the vaccines themselves, as if she's trying to shift attention from herself to them. She said wasn't against vaccines, but also made no effort to clarify she's for them either.
I used to think she was ahead of her time politically. Being political was one of the things she was best known for. On immigration she was well ahead, but otherwise, idk. Maybe she was just all-around cynical about everything, and that worked to her advantage in every other year, until 2020, where people who blindly cling onto conspiracies were revealed for what they actually were.
Looking back, her lyrics was political, but usually not super deep. Her lyrics were ambiguously skeptical enough to where mildly skeptical and full-blown conspiracy nuts could each interpret them the way they want to. But it's probably true she's closer to the latter end.
Her music was great at being subversive, disturbing "the establishment" or at least convincing her listeners that she was doing so. The actual policy details and nuance weren't as important; moreso just how the songs make listeners feel viscerally.
I can definitely still listen to an artist I have disagreements with. I'll be checking out her next album. But it'll be more for the production and songwriting than her political insights.
